Stepping Up for First Step Inn

The Richard A. Perry Memorial Foundation with ProGroup of New Bedford

You may have noticed by now, but in case you haven’t: we love our community which is why we were thrilled when we were able to put on a month-long clothing drive this past April for First Step Inn of Fall River. In conjunction with The Richard A. Perry Memorial Foundation and ProGoup of New Bedford, we were able to donate over 40 bags of gently used men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing.

“The clothing drive by The Richard A. Perry Memorial Foundation will really make a difference here at the First Step Inn Shelter. Many come here with very little to nothing,” said Rosa Medeiros, Director of Homeless Services at Steppingstone, First Step Inn’s parent organization.

Medeiros said it was like Christmas watching them open the clothes that were graciously donated.

“These donations will help now and for a time to come.  We’ve purchased clothing racks to organize by women’s and men’s sizes.  This way when a shelter guest is in need…they can go shopping!” Medeiros said.

The First Step Inn is located at 134 Durfee Street in Fall River.

They provide a safe shelter and daily nutritious meals to homeless people in the city. They also help with crisis intervention, substance abuse treatment, housing placements, and referrals to community-based collateral services, educational development, medical care, domestic violence support, and other forms of assistance.

The clothing drive for First Step Inn ended on May 7th, when those from The Richard A. Perry Memorial Foundation and ProGroup of New Bedford were able to lend a helping hand and drop of the donations.
