Elliot Farm : The Best Sweet Corn in the World!
With “The Best Sweet Corn in the World” Elliot Farm has secured its presence as a community hotspot in Lakeville, MA. Open seasonally from 10am to 6pm this is a place you don’t want to miss! Elliot Farm prides itself on its no-frill, authentic farm ambience offering real deals on their native produce allowing customers coming back for more! For the past 26 years, family-owned Elliot Farm has provided Southeastern Massachusetts with quality, native produce at prices that cannot be beat.
Founder Kenneth Elliot, 62, has been farming for over 40 years, and welcomed his two children into the family business at the ripe ages of 9 and 8. Son, Ken, and daughter Dee spent their summers picking zucchini and weeding rows of sunflowers – all before the morning dew had the chance to dry. In 2014, the siblings assumed management of the farm, determined to keep agriculture in their community for generations to come. In 2019, Dee’s husband Jim Lough joined the family business, bringing his organic farming expertise along with him.
Elliot Farm LLC is a 50-acre crop farm. The home farm consists of approximately 5 acres of cropland used for vegetables and a 1-acre farmstead, equipped with a house, barn and small retail stand that resides underneath an open-air-carport. Along with the 5 acres of cropland owned, the farm rents 45 acres of cropland. It also maintains four 30”x100” high tunnels and one 22”x28” propagation greenhouse. The farm primarily grows sweet corn, tomatoes, cucurbits, mixed vegetables, and flowers. The farm stand inventory is also supplemented by produce purchased from other local farms. In 2018 the farm was enhanced by a PYO pumpkin field and sunflower field and was also approved to accept SNAP/EBT/HIP payments. In 2020, Elliot Farm was approved for a second HIP license to aid in its Covid-19 social distancing efforts.
The outpouring and support from the community has surprised owner Dee, for a very long time. The neighborhood is great too from all the supportive patrons, CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) Members and friends. As for coupons, a CSA refers to a group of farm stand customers who pledge to support their local farm by purchasing a “share” of the anticipated harvest before the season begins.
The CSA is unique, as members don’t receive premade bags filled with items their family may not like. Instead, members choose the produce they want when they want! This 12 week program begins in July with members shopping at their own convenience. CSA members save money while supporting their local grower.
